Singapore's own toy museum opens

SINGAPORE : A 30-year love affair with toys has led one Singapore collector to open a toy museum.

Called the Mint Museum of Toys, this treasure trove of toys will be a joy for both the young and the old.

There, they can catch a glimpse of rare collections of Popeye the Sailor, Felix the Cat, and superheroes such as Batman, Superman, and Robin.

The S$2 million museum is owned by a private collector, 56-year-old Chang Ya Fa, who started collecting the toys when he was just six years old.

Over the years, he built up his collection to about 50,000 pieces of toys from auctions and curio shops around the world.

The exhibit, which is housed across the street from Raffles Hotel, is estimated to be worth a cool S$5 million.

The entrance fee is S$10 for adults and S$5 for children.

The museum opens daily from 9.30am to 6.30pm and will be officially launched in July. - CNA /ct

maybe danchia or someone can talk to science centre and have a permanent (may a few years) display of toys from scifi. A certain amount can be collected each month from science centre. think this will work?

Not Science Centre, but u can try National Museum.

The National Heritage Board (NHB) ever approached me once, but later the idea was dropped.

Any idea why the idea was dropped?

I thought it is a good idea to have science fiction promoted in Singapore.

Limited resources, need to be prioritized, as usual.

Anyway, the new Toy Museum has a fancy name ... it's called MINT (Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia with Toys)
