Imperial fleet at Endor

Post by jemDconqueror » Sat Apr 15, 2006 1:09 pm

The number of star destroyers in service is immense. The hull number of the star destroyer "Entor" (CVS 1049) indicates either that in excess of a thousand star destroyers of this class have been built, or that this is the 1049th built by its particular shipyard. According to the reports of Rebel Alliance historian Arhul Hextrophon (in The Imperial Sourcebook) the Galactic Empire has a about three to five dozen or so destroyers in an average sector group fleet, of which there is at least one for each of the Empire's thousands of sectors. This indicates that the local territorial fleets alone account for tens of thousands of star destroyers galaxy-wide.The rebel alliances fllet was way smaller when they met at Endor, so how come the Alliances capital ships even managed to survive, let alone destroy, the Imperial escort fleet ???

I guess the fault lies with the Emperor's & Admiral Piett's overconfidence - During the battle, a captain asked, "We aren't going to attack?" & Admiral Piett simply replied, "I have my orders from the Emperor himself. He has something special planned for this Rebel scum. We are only to keep them from escaping."
It was the result of him letting his guard down, that the bridge was later hit by a kamikaze A-Wing. Now with the command ship destroyed coupled with the loss of coordination & fighting spirit, i believe the Imperial fleet was left in too much a frenzy to put up a good fight.

Either way, even when the rebel fleet engaged at point-blank range, they would still be outgunned by the imperial fleet...the Mon-calamarie cruises on a one-to-one basis can not match the firepower of a single star destroyer alone, which has 8 turbolaser emplacements on the broadside(ISD-II) for engaging large capital ships. The rebel fleet was also outnumbered like 3 to 1.
