Father battles Son

In the battle between Vader and Luke, Luke actually managed to hurt Vader in their first encounter.
Though under the training of Yoda, Luke would have improved in the use of the force, but to actually hurt Vader in a lightsaber duel is kinda off the mark.
Vader was one of the best lightsaber fighting jedi, after Yoda. Heck, he beat Dooku in Revenge .... Vader couldn't have been so careless, and even knowing Luke was his son, won't have allowed Luke such a lucky shot....

I think Vader's fighting technique and reaction is greatly diminished due to his heavy armoury...he's probably as agile as Barney the dinosaur wearing that suit!!

i think after Yoda bunny hopping would be Mace Windo's Vaapad technique but compairing yoda and windo would be like compairing apples and oranges because both of them has very different style

I think age has a part to play here.
Anakin's powers were peaking and Count Dooku was getting old. When you get exhausted in a fight, you get careless and lose.

Plus the fact that Luke was still young, full of energy and fighting for his life. So he's pretty much given into his fear at that point in time. "Don't let me destroy you.." says Darth Vader to a visibly shaken Luke. So a desperate man fighting may have foregone technique in favor of aggression. So at that point, including the fact that Vader is no longer the Anakin that he was at his peak - remember - this is like 20 to 30 years later, it is highly conceivable that Luke can get in the lucky shot.

Vader was toying with Luke and gotten over-confident... typical of Anakin...

vader cant fight as well as with all his mechanical limbs, thus making him a bit stiff in lightsaber battles (as evidenced in the latest novel: rise of the dark lord)

Has anyone seen the paperback out in the local stores?
