Our troopers arrive back on Wed night. Thursday morning, 8.00 am, we'll be in the FM91.3 studio on the morning show with Joe Augustin and Petrina Kow so hope you'll tune in to hear all about the Rose Parade.

I don't think you'll be missing much with 91.3's interview.

It was "1 min of interview, 3 mins of music, 1 min of interview, 3 mins of music, 1 min of interview, 3 mins of music, etc". Came across to me like the DJs found the perfect opportunity to have overly self-indulgent 'fun' doing Star Wars parodies at the expense of the troopers.

Not assuming a TV interview could be arranged at a snap of a finger, I think it would have been totally different if it was e.g. an interview on Primetime Morning on Channel News Asia or something with Rose Parade footage or photos to back up the story.

Imagine:

this photo on Channel NewsAsia (with a gradual zoom towards the Singapore flag):

with a voiceover by the host: "COMING UP NEXT, Singapore's very own Stormtroopers at the Pasadena Rose Parade".
================

Anticipation is built straightaway with 'who' and 'how' questions stirring in the minds already.

Relating 'trooping' to the general populace over radio (and hoping to make a connection) is difficult as it's something very visual.

The medium of publicity can work for or against us.

I caught part of the broadcast on the way to work. There was one segment of interview/conversation, then a few songs, followed by another interview/conversation segment.

True, the DJs did sneak in quite a few puns and parodies, but I felt it was all in good humour, and added to the lighthearted cheery mood of the segments. :)

Overall, it was an interesting broadcast that captured the listener's attention, and at the same time raised awareness on the 501st presence in Singapore, doing good and volunteering for charitable causes. Well done, folks! :D

Hi all,

We completed the radio interviews, photo ops and goofing around at around 9.00 am and headed up to the Canteen for breakfast and then we got stomped again, well kind of. The editorial team at stomp heard that we were in the building and wanted to meet up and take pictures, which we happily went with. We finally wrapped things up and stood down at 10.30 am.

Hey Brothers and Sisters in Star Wars!

I'm absolutely humbled by the show of support from all of the forum members. We hardly had any inernet access in he hotel and I never expected the 501st to show up at 2359hrs (OMG!!!) just to receive 2 guys. It was an amazing feeling. Thanks guys...

Paul was talking about maybe setting up a session where Aw and myself would be able to share our experiences with all of you. I look forward to doing that.

Training for the parade was a surreal experience. I'd never seen so many troops in one place. This is also where I have the thank Singapore for having national service. :P All the marching in the army definitely paid off. :)

During the 8 plus km march. I had 2 things that kept me going. The first was OMG I'm marching in the Rose Parade!!! That got me going for the first few km. After that... It was that the Singapore Outpost members would beat me up if I fell out. haha... Honestly though. the march was tough but great fun and an amazing experience.

May the Force be with You All
