Vintage Star Wars Comics: EWOKS

Post by feitonglong » Sun Aug 10, 2008 10:18 pm

Ewoks Comics was published under Marvel Comics imprint Star Comics in the mid-80s roughly based on the Star Wars: Ewoks Animation TV Series. The stories featured were original and not adapted from the Cartoon Series.

The series lasted 14 issues with a 15 issue planned but cancelled. It starred several Ewoks we know from ROTJ Chief Chirpa, Logray, Teebo and Wicket W. Warrick with new characters like Princess Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka (Wicket's love interest) and more .....

Ewoks #1: Kneesaa steps on a Nightshade thorn and Wicket W. Warrick & Teebo must find the cure, the nectar of the Sunnydew flower, which is in the possession of Gantu.

Ewoks #2: Captain Krag and the Zorbian Space Pirates attack the Ewok village and kidnap Teebo. When the male Ewoks fail in rescuing Teebo, the female Ewoks step up.

Ewoks #3: Wicket, Kneesaa, and Teebo are called upon by the council to take their gliders and fly to where to forest and the mountains meet to harvest the special wood the Ewoks use to construct their gliders. However, the young Ewoks encounter trouble when the find that the Quorks have already harvested the wood!

Ewoks #4: Wicket W. Warrick & Teebo decide to take a shortcut home across the Valley of the Lizard Warriors after a long mission, but they are captured by an exiled Ewok, named Graak, and his Lizard Warriors. They are offered passage on the condition that they can survive a hunt in which they are the prey.

Ewoks #10: This issue crosses over with the Droids Comics Series featuring C3PO and R2-D2. The story starts out like a fairly standard Droids misadventure; Artoo and Threepio are assigned to escort baby Prince Plooz from the planet Sooma to his homeworld of Alzar. Unfortunately, General Sludd of Alzar has other plans. He sends ships to destroy the droids' ship en route, so that King Gokus of Alzar will declare war with Sooma, after which Sludd will pick up the pieces and rule both worlds. Somehow, the attack creates a time warp that sends the droids back to the future! On the other side of the time warp is the moon of Endor, where the Ewoks are preparing for a historic peace treaty with the Duloks. The Duloks are planning to stab the Ewoks in the back. (Dulok treachery was part of the plot of every episode of the Ewoks cartoon.) The droids help Wicket and Kneesaa to save the Ewok leaders before returning to their own time to foil Sludd's plot. This issue kind of explain why C3PO was treated like a God in ROTJ .....

Ewoks #11: Wicket and Teebo must rescue Princess Kneesaa, who has been shrunken by the Fleebogs in order to defeat the ra-lugg. Little does she know that she will continue to shrink unless Wicket and Teebo reach her in time!
