The Phantom Menace

Looking back at how Lucas named the 1st prequel, it is accurately named as the Phantom Menace.
It was still the golden era of the Republic and Jedi, the ugly head of the Dark side had yet to expose itself ... only hint was the emergence of Darth Maul ...

When I first heard that EP1 was to be called The Phantom Menace , I was so turned off by it because it was sooooooo unlike the classic trilogy film titles. I thought Lucas had lost it . Now , I cannot imagine it being called anything else !

This probably explained why the ET was scoping out Earth as a possible refuge from the evil Empire.

This is also probably why Earth was not part of the Galactic Republic or Empire, we actually got rejected for membership...

I agree. DArth Phantom (sidious) & DArth Menace (maul) = Phantom Menace
