Being a part of the 501st Legion is not just a hobby or a social gathering... It is a commitment... A commitment to put ones best for charity and the less fortunate... It is the reason why Mr GL gives so much recognition to the legion... If forming a cadet corps is going to equate nothing but social activities, I am against affiliation...
redandblue,
Get familiar with the charter of the legion at www.501st.com. So far, only one young person in our community deserves credit for his costume standard and passion. Do refrain from starting topics for the sole sake of initiating pointless chatter, esp if it is going to involve certain groups of individuals. My 5 cents worth...

Long long time ago if my memory still serve me well, people who are under 18 can join 501st as Enlistee (or something like that) tho' they are not considered as a Full Member. They can only join the 501st events after their parents or guardian had signed an Authorization Form and if I remember correctly, peg to another Adult Trooper or something. Upon reaching 18 (or 19 in some state), they automatically became Full Member.
Children also get listed as members of The Rebel Legion when it first started.
But a few years back, the Com members of 501st (followed by The Rebel Legion) revise the Charter and with advice from US Lawyers, changed the Rulings. People under 18 are considered a Minors and kinda not Liable to their Crime (something like that....) so in order to protect 501st and maintain high standards, only people above 18 are allowed to be part of 501st.
The Rebel Legion, being the Sister Club of 501st also have to do the same months later, and now I understand, they are also polishing up the Min. Requirement for certain "Good Guys/Neutral" Costumes and Armors.
As for your idea, ya it seems like good idea as more and more Teenagers are more matured than their age but still we are at the Mercy of the decisions made at the higher level (US side) and the Local & Foreign Law.
You are just 2 years away from being able to apply to 501st so PLEASE be patient. Anyway, you can still join us in many of our activities so you're still at an advantage compared to your US Conterparts who may be Banned from any 501st or FanForce Activities due to their age.

Hey redandblue, here's my feel...The main reason why we joined the 501st is because of our passion and love for Star Wars and the love of costuming. The kind of passion you have at your age is admirable and should be encouraged. The Legion standards are high but I believe you would make a fine addition when you turn 18 and join the 501st proper.
As Desmond mentioned though there are legion requirements for each member. These would include making official 501st appearances for community or charity events. We are afterall the bad guys who do good!

so any particular costume are u goin to have ? btw why not u introduce urself in this section viewforum.php?f=12 ?
Well, for a start, we got to know you first, probably meetup etc and of course, you must own your own quality costume/armor.
Redandblue have his own set of Armor since 2 years ago and only a year plus now shun of qualifying for 501st Legion Membership so that's why he can't wait to join the legion, or even it's Cadet Corp.
Currently, there is the Imperial Training Academy for those who can't qualify agewise for 501st but still own 501st related costume/armor and attends non-official 501st troopings with their parent/guardian.

Remember that membership with the Imperial Training Academy don't equal a full 501st Legion Membership; it is created to just give kids with 501st related costume a sense of belonging to a particular group like their parent or sibling or guardian have with 501st Legion.
