Ol' Dan's DL-44 blaster

Post by renzaijh » Mon Sep 08, 2008 10:28 pm

Don't worry, it's not cardboard this time

Seeing all the troopers with blasters got the Imperial Officer in me itching to get my own blaster too, Hehe. Managed to find a Star Wars Lazer Tag Rebel Blaster (modelled after the DL-44) on eBay:

You can view a commercial of the blaster at YouTube. Starts at 00:15:

I know Imperial Officers carry the Merrson blaster but what the heck, hehe. It's my 'just for fun' blaster. :)

The blaster is slightly bigger than the standard Kenner/Hasbro Han Solo blaster and looks closer to the movie prop. The electronics (sound and light) are completely busted so I got rid of those components and the blaster became a lot lighter.

Next came the paint job. I looked up YouTube for painting tips:

'Applying a wash'

'Dry Brushing'.

Those videos were really helpful. I didn't document my process but here're some pix of my painted blaster and hope the folks here like what they see:

For the newer members who might not have caught what that meant... check out renzaijh's impressive creation in the earlier thread here

everyone should enjoy the feel of posing with a blaster. Bigger, the better.
