Paint cans. Started with primer, then silver, gunmetal, then black. Then scratched it, sandpapered it, bashed it around so that some of the top coat comes off to reveal the coats underneath, just like normal wear and tear would do to the real thing.recon wrote:Sweet! Very nicely done Paul.

Tks for the info Paul!
Actually there is a much simpler way to create paint chips and edge wear after application of base coat, which in this case black.
Here is what i usually do in steps
1) Fill out gaps, uneven surfaces with epoxy putty followed by sanding then priming
2) Application of base coats, 2 to 3 layers allowing curing time of 7 hours between each coat to let paint to adhere and bond to plastic surface properly.
3) Drying brushing with humbrol silver to create wear along ages. If paint chip is required, use a Q tip dipped into humbrol silver then apply to the area desired
4) To further create rust and dirt effects, do a wash with artist oil brown or black etc
5) Lastly do as semi gloss clear coat over to protect the job done.
Hope this would be useful for those who paint and mod their weapons
