Gaunlets are for Imperial Navy Troopers aka Death Star Troopers, Imperial Gunners and Imperial TIE Pilots. The wrist-length ones are more suitable for Imperial Officers.

Been reading from the imperial officer web site. Some mentioned gaunlet, others mentioned the wrist-length. I guess I'll go for the wrist-length.

The shorter wrist-length ones are more accurate, bro. You definitely won't go wrong with them. The gauntlets are controversial.
