Generation X - TK experience

Post by khstriker » Mon Feb 07, 2011 4:10 pm

Hi, I am a Generation X guy who love StarWars since then. I have bought a stormtrooper FX armor from a collector since Nov 2010.

Was so excited since then and started my journey to assemble the armor costume.

(BTW : I have not even started yet to make it "wearable" yet)

I started meeting up with 501 Legion mates (a group of friendly troopers) and asked for advice.
They even told me I am not too old to join.

Let me share my journey with all then.

It began by de-assembled all the armor from the mannequin.
I had to remove glue, velcro, sticky stains from all parts of the armor.
It took me a few weekend by searching for glue remover, scrapping away especially the glue stains...

Managed to remove around 90%. Sigh!

Also just managed to order a pair of size 9 TKboots end of Jan 2011.
Still waiting for it to be delivered to my doorstep.

Thanks Keith (501 Legion) for a long list of stuffs to get for the assembly of the armor costume.[Will post them for reference later]

Gotten a black diving suit for the inner costume too.

At least 1st phase (my plan) is almost completed.

Is the Stormtrooper neck seal still get from ebay SG?
I just did a search and found the price range from $70+ to $50+?
Any recommendation?
Satin or cotton better?

Is the Nomex glove able to get from Beach Road?
Any updates on this?

Hey bro! Finally you got armor! Good for you! Can you PM me yr contact number? I'll ring you and arrange an armor party!

As for the neckseal - its really up to you. The cloth ones are cooler and easier to wash. At the end of the day, its down to comfort, and of course the point behind it is to cover yr neck area. Whether satin or cotton, I think I leave it up to you.
Yes, eBay is the place to get a neckseal. Make sure you measure the circumference of your neck before you make the order. You need to ensure that the length fits you. Also a good idea to leave a little extra space in there so in future you can use a throat mic to project your voice.

As for the Nomex gloves...if you're lucky you can find them at Beach Road. Some guys managed to find them...most couldn't. Its easy to get the green ones but very hard to find the black version. Again, you can find them through eBay. That's where most of the guys get their gloves from.

A couple of questions I have...
1. What is the state and color of the FX armor you have? Armor turns yellowish over time and exposure to UV rays. If its too yellow, we'll have to target to turn you into a sandtrooper instead of a stormtrooper. Stormtroopers need to be shiny prestine white! ;)
2. What helmet did you get with your armor? Hopefully its not the ugly FX helmet.
Perhaps you can post up photos of the armor here so we can have a look. :)

Hi I am not sure about the Neck Seal, although i think that the price range u stated is quite high for a neck seal! U can check out my TK journal in the Academy and there is a link of where i bought my neck seal.

My neck seal is very thin and better in terms of comfort as comapred to the other neck seals as it is "cooler" (temperature wise!) However is also crumples up if your neck is too short! But for me its not an inconvenience and its a great neck seal! not familiar with the materials though

for the gloves they sell thin black gloves at beach road..yes u can get the nomex gloes too! just rmber to get a longer glove so it can reach higher than ur wrist..maybe juz before ur forearm?

Oh.
I have tried the links from Stanlow but all links have expired.
Will have to source around..

Nevertheless, I have arranged with Keith for the upcoming armor party.

Most likely I will have to be the SANDTROOPER due to the condition of the armor. (I like the orange-colored pauldron too)

Realised there is no many around.
