Folks,
For those interested in costuming as Episode 3 or Episode 6 Royal Guards, the proper footwear is a pair of strapless red suede boots with no visible zips on the outside. (For Episode 2, just get a pair of black zip boots from Beach Road at $35 bucks).
I made a pair of red suede boots from a BKK bootery and these have been APPROVED by the Detachment CO for 501st purposes. However, I have not field-tested them yet. For those who are interested, the shop has its own website, including instructions on how to get someone else to take measurements. All-in my boots cost THB8,000. I'm still sourcing for better and cheaper places, including this place at Jalan Klendek, and will update further as appropriate.

By public transport, get to the Asok BTS (skytrain station), exit the south side, ignore the big sign saying "Siam Bootery", and head northwest along Sukhumvit Road; it's on the left
Notes
There were in fact several booteries in Bangkok that I, erm, espied. But my online research yielded favourable reviews of one specific-but-unnamed bootery at Asoke, described as "just get down from the Asoke station", "you can't miss it" and "it's not Siam bootery". So it's this one.
