I'm planning my TD conversion over these few months. Has anyone removed the ab plate in the FX armour and is there a better and safe way to do it? I'm scratch building the backpack and it seems much more difficult than expected. Now I can really get some useful tips from this thread. Good thinking Ivan! Lets get dirty!

Just do it.. dun scare... I used a handheld saw and a screwdriver drill for it... no money for dremel... haha... but it will work....it is very easy.... and u can do the sandie ab with ABS sheets leftover from the FX stormie belt in the kit.





it is gonna be dirty anyway... so dun need to care bout some scratches or dents from the sawing..

The Sandpack is actually one of the easiest parts of the Sandtrooper to build, provided you know which version you want to do, and the availablity of the parts on hand. And no, I'm not talking about anal accuracy but say, an 85% accurate Sandpack.

Why not post which version you're going for and what you already have on hand...looking over the list together, I think it's safe to say that all 3 existing Sandtroopers would be able to come up with enough help and advice on completing it.

Hi Tim, as spoken with Yen, apparently he has already started building the backpack... I think is near complete.

I'm still waiting for him to post his pics... as previously promise to.

Hi Ivan & Tim, thanks for asking and I must say this by far the toughess yet most enjoyable piece of project I've embarked on. The individual components are mostly done except with few remaining ones to be completed before final assembly. I was planning to complete the whole thing first but anyway here's some early shots of the loose parts. One of the best things about the sandtrooper character I think is that it comes with a whole wardrobe of add-on choices sometimes you find it hard to decide what you like because they all look great! For the backpack I've finally picked the "move-along" pack as probably most fun and challenging to build. Out of the heap of junk I've been collecting, these are some that are gone into making the pack. You can tell these are common items such as pvc pipe/tubes, wipes containers, chinese bowls, toy bat, drink bottle, plastic trays, camping chair, tupperware and even a toilet flush! These are years of sourcing as I wanted to completely scratch build the backpack with cheap daily items and without ready made vacformed items that you can easily get online. I will update again when more work is done and hopefully people will find it interesting enough to want to explore the Sandie character more or to think twice before throwing out junk. I never look at the toilet the same way again.

Sure Yen, what an impressive collections of junks! Sure...please keep us posted on your updates. By the way, where did you get the frame from?

This is from the folding chair you can find in Beach Road army stores. I got mine from Carrefour for $6 I'm that cheap I know. But if you want the accurate version you can always get the Alice backpack frame from ebay. This is what I bought:

I drilled out the rivets and the 2 frames came apart. Only 1 frame is needed which I saw the lower joints and reconnected using elbow joints from aquarium shop at $1 each.

Awee- OK I will try to take more photos of the radio. This period is busy with work. I forgot to thank you for the photo tutorial to cut the ab plate. I followed your way to cut it and cut my finger too! Not your fault really but maybe some ritual I must go through. Hehe...
