Lewdini's Legacy Wave Breakdown

Post by lewdini » Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:10 pm

Hey everyone,
this is hopefully the first of what will be a series of posts that detail the breakdown of each wave of figures that are released in the Legacy line.

Lets begin!

01: Han Solo (Desert Headscarf)
Despite being one of the most well loved characters in the Star Wars Saga, this rendition of Han Solo is most likely to be one of the peg warmers in this wave. Han Solo figures has generally been relegated to filling up the shelves in our local retail stores. Just how unpopular Han Solo figures are? Even the 2006 Galactic Hunt Han Solo w Carbonite block became a common figure found in most stores. I even remember this figure still being available in places like Bugis BHG one year later!

If other Han Solo figures havent fared well, will this one break the trend? My money is on it being highly unlikely, as this is a Han Solo from a deleted scene that isnt known by many fans. Early views of this sculpt does not impress me either, as Hasbro has struggled to capture Harrison Fords likeness in their countless releases of everyone's favourite scoundrel.

Demand Rating 1/5 - Wait for the bargain bins!

02 Luke Skywalker (Desert Headscarf)

Another character likely to be seen on the shelves weeks and months after its released. Where fans cry for a definitive version of a Death Star II Luke, we get a version which is most similar to the multiple Jabbas Palace Luke Skywalkers that have been released in recent years.

Traditionally, Luke Skywalker figures havent been too popular with collectors over here. Still, I would bet on this figure outdoing both Han Solo and Chewbacca in sales, but not by much. Since this version of Luke is from the ROTJ deleted scenes, this figure is a top priority in any collectors collections.

Demand Rating: 1/5 - Joins good friend Han Solo in retail stores . . . gathering dust on retail shelves.

08: Darth Vader (Multi-Piece Helmet)
The bad boy of the Star Wars universe. Darth Vader has always been popular with fans and collectors alike. However, with three to four releases of Darth Vader each year, collectors find themselves swamped with the many Vaders that don't seem to offer much as compared to previous versions.

But! All other Vaders are set to bow down to this one true definitive version. Move over VOTC Vader, this Darth Vader is a first of its kind; Hasbro has topped the scale by offering this Vader with a two piece helmet, the first for any Darth Vader figures over the years.
This verion allow fans a chance to accurately recreate the memorable scene where Vader first unmasks to reveal his battle scarred face in Return of the Jedi. With such a significant upgrade over previous figure incarnations, this Vader is bound to be THE figure to get in this wave!

Demand rating 5/5 - Going to be a target by collectors, fans and resalers. Get em' while they last!

07 Bane Malar
Hmm, this figure seems to be the enigma of the set. Possibly going to be sought after due to his unique look, or could go the way of the peg warmer. With many collectors budgets going towards the BMF or AT-TE, this could reduce the budget allocated towards the figures and thereby lower collector demand for unique aliens.

Demand Rating: 3/5 - Possibly hot, yet possibly not.

BD 06: Yarna d'al Gargan

One of the most requested aliens from Jabbas palace makes her debut at long last. Once conceived as a prototype for the Power of the Force line, it took nearly 2 decades to see her in all her plastic glory.

What Hasbro has given us is a sculpt that is both well articulated and well sculpted. However, being a background character with little play value, her popularity would most likely be limited to the hardcore collectors. This does not bode well for the figure in terms of sales. With a huge release of toys this July, collectors might forgo this figure so as to afford the BMF or AT-TE

Demand Rating: 2/5 - Destined to gather dust on the pegs till clearance
