It's out... and very early. With the photos from SDCC 2009 still fresh and piping hot on most collector sites, this is in fact a delightful surprise.
Packaging:

The packaging is of the latest red and white design, as per the clone wars, with the difference being that it states legacy collection. And being the impatient me, let's just tear into the packaging...The X-wing fighter has become the symbol of the Rebellion. Swift, reliable and highly responsive in battle, this rugged craft is capable of absorbing plenty of damage in combat. X-wings have flown in all major battles against the Empire and are the preferred fighters of Rebel pilots. In the bustling Alliance hangers, X-wings are prepared to for another battle with Imperial fighters, as pilots and technicians check engines, instruments and weapons. One Alliance pilot, Wedge Antilles, flew an X-wing in the Battle of Yavin as Red Two and as Red Leader in the Battle of Endor.

Out of the box...

The bottom... with the rest of the parts.

Close-up of the interior.

All out!

A closer look at the leaflet and the sticker.

Like most hasbro stuff, am definitely not using that sub-standard sticker, since it's not even transparent, but comes with a white background. Ever wonder how awful that would look like on the non-white x-wing? Then again, it's still a nice thought, since this would also cater to EU collectors.

Let's take a look at the 6 views of the starfighter...

And not forgetting some close-ups...
S-foils in attack mode.

The engine.

The astromech port.

The cockpit. {Hmm... ain't we missing the sticker for the instruments panel?, actually even the box art is missing that part. Shucks...}

The parts to make this starfighter purchase all worthwhile...

The ladders.

And not forgetting the figures themselves...

And last but not least... A comparison... with the previous release of the Red 5 X-wing...

To wrap it all up...
• The plastic used definitely feels more toy-like, and there's also less weathering.
• Where's the cockpit's instruments panels???
• Decals definitely looks better on vehicles than stickers.
• With the number of accessories... maybe a slightly retooled x-wing with a cargo compartment?
• The wings are already warped while in packaging...

• The ladders need help to stay on...

Which puts it all into one perspective... Is this worth it?
Well... YES!
• There's just so much rebel alliance x-wing pilots flooding the pegs and shelves... where's the x-wing?
• Ladders!!! Hasbro finally gave us some very useful accessories!!
• 2 characters in a package for much lower price point than previous releases, what's not to like.
• I LOVE THE REPAINTS. BRING IT ON! {Just the x-wings only though.

• moar... MOar... MOAR... MOAR!!! X-WINGs for this battle pack -> http://starwars.sg/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2409
And... yes. It's a good buy, I would say.
Thanks for reading, and hopefully more snapshots over the weekend.
