Or is there? Does the blade power up in a wave, like a 'real' saber? or it just clicks on?

Unfortunately yes, they are more expensive compared to MR fx lightsabers, might be due to the craftmanship involved. It does not have the sound effects like the MR though and it's power up on a small switch near the running LEDs at the hilt.

Agreed, a pity that the saber doesn't include the sound effect feature. But in all, its still an awesome saber!
