Landing and Flying off.

Post by Impulse » Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:35 pm

Before I go to bed had these questions popping out.

I know there were LATT/c that carries ATTE in the prequels. In the Rebellion, how does big vehicles such as ATAT land?

How does ATAT packed inside a Star Destroyer?

And can Imperial Class Star Destroyer land the same as Venator Class Star Destroyer?

How does the Venator flies off from land when you don't see any repulsor (sp?) lift or some jet or something at the base of the ship to push this heavy weight into space?

And if Super Star Destroyer is soo big and such an overkill, why the Empire never make full use of these SSDs?

Extract from Wikipedia...

The Walker Dropship or Y-85 Titan was an important vehicle used to deploy AT-ATs and AT-STs onto planetary surfaces. It was manufactured by Incom Corporation, the same company which manufactured the ARC-170 starfighters, Z-95 Headhunters, and X-wing starfighters. It features a standard cockpit module and can accommodate four AT-ATs in addition to four AT-STs. The AT-ATs could stand at full height within the Y-85, allowing them to move immediately into combat once deployed by the dropship.

The Walker Dropship is available only on larger Imperial ships such as the Executor, Eclipse, and Sovereign-class Star Dreadnaughts, whereas Imperial-class Star Destroyers and other smaller ships make use of smaller walker barges. It also had two forward twin laser cannons for defence. The Walker Dropship can also be used to deploy AT-AT Swimmers and TIE Fighter Boats straight into any body of water.

Though it was never seen in The Empire Strikes Back, the Y-85 is credited with having delivered walkers to the Hoth surface before the assault on Echo Base, according to the Inside the Worlds of The Original Trilogy factbook.

Episode IV - VI Capital Warships
- Constructed in Space Shipyards.
- Need giant repulsor platforms in order to achieve escape velocity if build on ground. Eg The SSD Lysandar was built on Coruscant with the Emperor hiding it from the people with his mind control. (X-Wing Series)
- SSD are flagships for Emperor and maybe Vader... from the books I think there is a total of 4 built? I think all of the Emperor's weapon of mass destruction has weak points and all the time he has scientist building them, the resoures is huge... eg Sun Crusher, Death Stars etc...

Don't u mean Lusankya? Isard's flagship and mental facility...

The technical journals mentioned four, but did not state where and what. Thus this probably means the rest, except for Vader's flagship only happens in EU.

Warlord Zsinj also commanded a SSD.

Yes they does... even back in IV-VI. Most of the rebel fighters are also FTL capable. X-Wing, A-Wing, B-Wings...

Your ship is too big to land on a planet. The planet would go boom before your ship lands. Hahaha!
