Episode III, The Backstroke Of The West

Lesson learnt: Never never buy pirated Star Wars video, especially the ones that are translated from Chinese.
episode iii, the backstroke of the west

i saw revenge of the sith last weekend at a local theater with my friend joe who was in town on business. it was much better than the first two movies and a fitting end (err.. middle) to the star wars saga.

the next day i was walking past my friendly dvd salesperson and decided to check out revenge of the sith. i was assured the quality was good and for 7rmb why not give it a shot.

aside from the counters on the top of the screen and a distorted perspective it was ok- not high quality but watchable. the captions were a hilarious surprise- a direct english translation of the chinese interpretation of what the script was saying. it varied from being somewhat close to the script to being 'far far away'....

The Chinese title for REVENGE OF THE SITH is 西斯的å??击

Hence, literally, the translation becomes The Backstroke Of The West

I laughed my head off when the clone pilot was going with the traditional "he is in my behind" translation.

And how come the translation end up with a few "F***" words?!?

And from the translation, I learnt that the Sith wants to be "Strong and Big" and fight against the "Presbyterian Church" (i.e. "Jedi" translation?!?).

The mystery of how this came about has been solved long ago...aparently they used a translation software, instead of an actual person doing the translation.

However the mystery still remains as to why anyone would want to translate a movie that's originally in English, back to English from Mandarin...

The technical definition of the phrase "I have the high ground"...

They must be using a translation program to convert the original English substitles to Chinese substitles for the China market.

After they translated to Chinese substitles, somehow they may have removed the original English substitles.

Then they used back the same goh-yak translation program to translate the Chinese substitles back to a English substitles.

So, after 2 rounds of filtering, the result ... The Backstroke Of The West!

Oh in case you guys don't understand what is anakin and obi-wan's distorted names... here it is...

Original
1) Anakin
2) Obi-wan Kenobi

Translated to Chinese
1) Ah1 la1 jin1 (anakin)
2) Ka2 Bi3 Li4 (kenobi)

Re-translate back to English
1) Allah-Gold (Anakin)
2) Card Ratio (Kenobi)

Wow...

And that'll explain this screenie.
Image
(orininal)anakin: "obi wan, may the force be with you"

and C3P0 becomes chui1 pi2 becomes "blow the skin".

and the spoof...
Image
(Original) Yoda: "premonitions? premonitions?"
WOW! Yoda knows about the pregnancy!
