Funny that you've mentioned this trait. Those affected Jedi didn't seem to have use this excellent mind trick in their hour of desparation!!!!
Or perhaps the all powerful individual conveniently forget this in order to move the show along?

Perhaps they spend those much time practising their lightsabers, and forget to learn mind tricks, hehe ... see how empty the meditation room is (only see Yoda meditating there)
