Is the Empire truly evil?

Setting aside the notion of good and evil and the notion that the sith are evil - looking at it from an objective point of view, why do we think that the Empire is evil? We are told that the Empire is evil but why? Because it was born out from an evil sith Lord? (Ep 4)

But the "evil sith Lord" (aside from his personal wants and desire for power) saw that the democractic republic wasn't working. (Ep 1)

The Republic senate was mired in beaucracy that was frozen in inaction. Trade disputes / embargoes were obviously rampant and the Jedi, once the maintainer of order and peace in the Galaxy were no longer able to maintain law and order (Ep 1).

The Empire was ruled by the power of one man but through Regional Governors (Ep 4) who each in turn ruled each of their system but had to answer ultimately to the Emperor.

To keep order, a universal symbol of power and security (like the police is a symbol of power) was constructed - the Death Star. (Ep 4)

The Empire brought about trade and prosperity - (Ep 5 / Ep 4) and while they tried to wipe out the slave trade, it was still being practiced but clearly those instances were few and far in-between (Ep 4 / Ep 6).

So except for the rebels and the unhappy factions (and there will always be unhappy factions) the new Empire was actually flourishing and people were actually prospering.

From that point of view, is the Empire truly evil?

:D :D

What is evil?

What is good?

How can one exist without the other?

Without evil, how can there be good?

Without evil, how do we know what is good?

What is good or evil, is a matter of perspective.

The galactic empire is perhaps the perfect example of a government gone wrong, the soul of which portrayed, nonetheless, best by the death star itself; an efficient, cold & deadly entity. For all the 'good' that had resulted from palpatine's efforts in bringing order to the galaxy, it absolutely isnt worth the billions of lives sacrificed.

In actuality the galaxy is crumbling further under palpatine's tyranny. Is palpatine truly evil? There can certainly be no doubt to that. Not only is he morally bad but the amount of evil he has wrought is unparralled in comparison to any recorded history. Is the empire truly evil then? Definitely. For the empire is simply an extension of Palpatine's will. 8) :)

Hmmm .. Let's face it .. We don't really know . After all , What knows itself better than itself? The creator of the Empire would know . Anyway .. Everything has some good in some area's and some bad in some area's . Even the Rebellion has some bad sides . So .... We can't choose . It's no one's responsibility on wether something is good or bad .
