Did the martians bury the machines in Earth or did they bring it here to Earth and built them after they landed?

If you are referring to the original War of the Worlds from HG Wells, the Martians came from Mars.

You must remember this comes from a time where the moon and Mars are rather mysteriously. Astronomers reported seeing canals on Mars and theorise that there are intelligent beings on Mars with a far advance technology.

I just watch the movie today, very impressed by the suspense in the beginning, but very disappointed with the ending.

I didn't recall the movie mentioned anything abt the aliens are Martians.

Many unanswered mystery ...
- the aliens are advanced species, shouldn't they do enough research on Earth before invasion just to get themselves killed by the gems?
- what are the bloody red plants growing on the ground and seeding by the aliens?
- why Tom Cruise's son suddenly appear back home?
- why alien's shield is mulfunction? even if the gems can kill aliens, how can gem kill shield technology?

Terraforming earth to become Mars? Well granted I did not recall hearing Mars being specifically mentioned, perhaps it was stated at the very beginning, when Morgan Freeman was talking. I recall a planet looking like Mars was shown. HG Wells novel did mention Mars.

TC said goodbye to his son and agree to meet at his wife's home and went after her daughter. I guess his son survive the burning and return home on his own.

Biotechnology?

Perhaps Steven Speilberg wanted to give the audience something to cheer about? In SS movies, he will usually have a scene where humans or Americans will beat the crap out of the villains, something to feel good about.

Anyone who reads HG Wells would know the ending, so the abruptness was not unexpected by me at least.

I did not like the idea that Martians had buried those ships millions of years ago before there were humans so that they could conquer or harvest the humans in future.
- how do they know humans will evolve?
- don't these jokers believe in upgrades after millions of years?
- if they feel the need to conquer Earth, why not do it before there were humans? If they want to harvest humans for their blood, why can't they breed a more docile species?

I need to get me that novel to read to see what I had missed

I think we all need to remember that the novel was written quite a few decades ago, and I believe that would explain a few things. I have not seen the book, but I did watch an old War of the World's movie shot in the 1970's (80's?) and this version was very similar to it, with certain updates of course.

EXACTLY!!!! However, I recall that it was said in the musical by Jeff Wayne that the martians had already eradicated all germ from their planet. Perhaps, they assumed that this was also applicable on Earth?

I don't get how everything in that vicinity of where the son ran INTO could be destroyed and the son made it back home alive and well and imagining that he did make it well in advance of Tom Cruise, why did he not bother to clean up at all when his mom and grandparents appear to be dressed up to their Sunday's finest?

I'm actually thinking that because the aliens were all dying, perhaps, they lost control over the tripods?

Totally agree, I thought that the burying in the ground for millions of years before an invasion was an unnecessary departure.

I belong in the camp of people who didn't love this movie.
