Most shocking! It showed u how powerful Sidious can be. It ties into why Yoda warned Luke how power the Emperor can be

Indeed.

During Palpatine's battle with Mace Windu, he only used a fraction of the Dark Force at his disposal. Palpatine could have disposed of Windu with the use of his Dark force alone. Windu knew and tried to take him out as fast as he could.

Unfortunately, with a little force, and fantastic acting, Sidious managed to trick a confused Anakin to strike the struggling Windu.
