Early reviews of new 'Star Wars' are positive

Seems like the movie is getting lots of good reviews. Crossing my fingers and toes to hope that it's true.

Early reviews of new 'Star Wars' are positive

LOS ANGELES - The advance reviews of Revenge of the Sith, the sixth – and final – Star Wars film, have been mostly positive – and in some cases outright effusive.

This is in marked contrast to the critical drubbing the last two installments in the saga, Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace, met with when they debuted.

Star Wars creator George Lucas has been showing the film to critics ahead of its May 19 release.

It tells the story of Anakin Skywalker (Canada's Hayden Christensen), the Jedi Knight who turns to the Dark Side of the Force and becomes the cyborg villain Darth Vader.

Daily Variety writer Todd McCarthy says the film is "Entertaining from start to finish and even enthralling at times." He singled out actor Ian McDiarmid, who plays the head of the galactic government, for extra praise.

McCarthy also showered praise on the computer effects. "The technical achievement here is on such a high level that one is lulled into taking it for granted," he wrote.

Writing in the Hollywood Reporter, Kirk Honeycutt had some misgivings about the acting. "Yet in the face of the epic grandeur of the film's design and action, these are mere quibbles," he adds.

According to Honeycutt, "the robot R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) delivers brilliant comic action. This holds true throughout the new film as writer-director Lucas does a much better job of interweaving comedy with the dramatic and even tragic."

Time magazine's Richard Corliss says that Lucas connects the new prequel trilogy to the original three films with "origami elegance." Revenge of the Sith "shows Lucas storming back as a prime confector of popular art."

The original Star Wars, released in 1977, and 1980's The Empire Strikes Back, received generally positive reviews. It was only with Return of the Jedi that Lucas fell out of favour with critics.

Friends of Lucas who have seen the film have also given it a thumbs up.

Steven Spielberg was reportedly so moved that he wept when it was screened for him, and Clerks director Kevin Smith said on his official website that the movie "is, quite simply, f----ing awesome."

well our own new paper gave it a 3 star out of 5... the reviewer claimed this movie came a bit too late after the earlier 2 disasters... i wonder if he knows what he's talking about...

See the show in itself instead of the whole tapestry he did... foolish his remarks were....
