The shuttle you have is correctly painted for those in this edition. You'll see the exact same thing if you search Google image for this new line of Imperial shuttle.
The brown lines are call 'weathering', aka bug splatter.

Yes any kind of spray paint from the can would work. But its best to: 1) Sandpaper the entire thing to give the paint a better surface to adhere to, and 2) Spray a coat of primer (flat gray or iron oxide) which will allow you to see any imperectins you may want to fill/re-sand, and also to give the ...
